Three Horses Premium Lager

The brand 3 Horses refers directly to the origin of the Breda brewery. As long ago as 1446 the "Burghers" of Breda were granted the privilege of brewing their own beer, a right normally reserved to one of the ancient guilds. After a period of individual home brewing, approximately twenty small commercial breweries emerged. One of these breweries, owned by Hendrik van den Corput, was destroyed during the great fire of Breda in 1534. The same brewer had new and larger stone premises built and reopened his enterprise in 1538 under the name "Den Boom". Thus that year, now over four and a half centuries ago, marked the birth of the present "Brouwerij De Drie Hoefijzers", the name given to this very brewery as was purchased in 1628 by Dielis van den Kieboom. The original name "De Drij Hoefijsers" was derived from the neighbouring blacksmith's house pub, where horsemen drank Van den Kieboom's beer while waiting for their horses to be shoed. Outside the forge a sign was hung, portraying three horseshoes, being the sign for a blacksmith in those times. The same sign has been retained to the present day and is still depicted on the 3 Hoefijzers and 3 Horses packaging. Nowadays enjoyed in over 50 countries worldwide a variety of 3 Horses products is available in stronger type beers as well as non-alcoholic malt beverages.
